Josh Thiel, Ben Mitchell and Save Totovosau set to return for 2021 season

As the Major League Rugby 2021 Season draws near, the San Diego Legion builds excitement as it confirms the return of more fan favorite players. This week SD Legion released the names of three additional players - Josh Thiel, Ben Mitchell, and Save Totovosau - who will be joining the ranks for next season. All three offer something unique to the squad making the San Diego Legion’s roster intimidating, to say the least.

Josh Thiel comes from a rugby family, and even at a young age, he carries a great deal of knowledge about the sport. Josh played at center during the World Rugby U20 Trophy in 2017 and went on to earn his first international cap during the 2018 Americas Rugby Championship. This rising star offers a great deal of versatility, giving us many ways to exploit his skills within our back line.

A leader in the SD Legion scrum and line out, Ben Mitchell is back! Ben joined SD Legion for the 2020 season after spending two seasons in Austin, where he caught the eye of San Diego Legion coaches. His work ethic is unmatched, and when you combine that with his ability to move across the field, he is a wrecking ball to any opposition’s game plan. We are looking forward to seeing what he can do on the field in 2021.

Try scorer extraordinaire, Save Totovosau, will return to the San Diego Legion, and he’s hungry for more. Save joined SD Legion in time for the MLR 2019 Season and showed San Diego fans what he was capable of, scoring six tries in ten matches. His ability to score continued into the 2020 Season, as Save started in all 5 games during the shortened 2020 MLR Season. Save is fast and has the innate ability to break tackles, while getting over the try line time after time. It will be exciting to see how many points Save can put on the board during the 2021 season.

Stay tuned for additional 2021 player signings in the coming weeks. To get all the latest SD Legion news and announcements, sign up below to receive email newsletters and follow SD Legion on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Linkedin.
