MATCH PREVIEW: LEGION LOOK TO SECURE PLAYOFF BERTH WITH WIN IN UTAH
SALT LAKE CITY – The San Diego Legion will take their first-place record on the road to Utah for a battle with the Warriors on Saturday evening.
With only two matches remaining in the Legion’s regular season, the playoff race is still wide open. A victory on Saturday is extremely important for San Diego to inch one step closer to locking up a playoff spot and also maintaining their place atop the Major League Rugby table. If the Legion can hang onto one of the top two spots in the standings, they’ll host a playoff match at Torero Stadium.
San Diego will enter the match on a high after scraping out an extremely tough 26-19 victory over the league-leading Gold in the Louisiana heat last Saturday. The Legion received contributions from both their key contributors like Nick Boyer, JP du Plessis, and Save Totovosau, and bench players like Tai Enosa, who scored the deciding try, to pick up the gritty victory.
They’ll have to use a similar formula to get the job done again on Saturday. Utah captain Tim O’Malley can put up points. He ranks sixth in the MLR in total points scored with 104, fourth in penalty goals with 13, and fifth in conversions with 30. Players like wing Tonata Lauti have broken off electrifying tries at various points throughout the last two seasons. They also have a tackling machine in the forward pack in the form of Lance Williams.
Saturday’s match will kick off at 6 PM PT and will be broadcast locally on the CW San Diego and available to stream on ESPN+. International viewers can watch the match on our Facebook page.
There will be an Official Viewing Party at The Lumberyard Tavern. The party starts at 5:00 PM with Food and Drink specials as well as SD Legion raffles and swag giveaways. Come join us for all of the fun, we will see you there!
