Born in San Diego, California to his parents Pamela and Joe, Patrick Madden has two older siblings James and Victoria. Madden started playing rugby at five-years-old with the San Diego Young Aztecs. He started playing select-side rugby since the eighth grade when Salty Thompson brought him into the pilot program for Eagle Impact Rugby Academy in Southern California.
Soon afterward, he was brought into the USA Rugby age-grade system at 15. He toured and captained the High School All-Americans in France and Belgium in 2015, as well as captaining multiple tours to Canada. Madden concluded his high school career winning the Mark Loane Medal, which is awarded to the best high school player in the country. With this, he spent the summer in Brisbane, Australia playing for the University of Queensland Rugby Club. More recently, he has also played and captained the North American Lions in Dubai and Rugby Town 7s. As well as playing for the USA U20s in their qualifying matches against Canada.
Madden recently graduated from California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly), where he was the captain and president of the Cal Poly Rugby Club. He finished up his collegiate rugby career as one of the five finalists for the Rudy Scholz Award, which is presented to the best collegiate player of the year. His most recent and cherished rugby accomplishment is being drafted by his hometown team, the San Diego Legion, in the inaugural MLR Collegiate Draft 2020.
