Career Highlights

Born in BC Canada, Michael Smith attended the University of British Columbia (UBC). After winning National Championships in 2017 & 2018, he became captain of the squad in 2019. In 2020, Smith was recognized as the UBC Graduating Male Athlete of the Year.

Also a member of Team Canada Men's 15's, and currently holds 5 caps as of December 2021. He started off in Rugby Canada’s Age Grade program, serving as vice-captain of the Canadian U20 Men's squad at the 2018 World Junior Trophy. In the fall of 2020, Smith was selected for the Canadian Rugby Development Academy and 15s National Team Training Camp.

As a science undergraduate in pharmacology, Smith has received numerous awards and scholarships for his abilities on and off the field, including UBC's prestigious Wesbrook Scholar award in 2019. It is his future goal to represent his national team in rugby and to attend medical school.
