Matias Freyre

Matías was born in the U.S. and grew up playing rugby in Buenos Aires. Matias played rugby for Club Newman from 2015-2019. He has played representative Rugby for the Buenos Aires Under 18's and Under 21 teams. He also played for the Argentina Pumas twice in the HSBC World Sevens Series, making his debut at the Singapore Sevens in 2018. Following the HSBC series, Matías moved to the MLR in 2020 with the Houston Sabercats. Matías proved to be a valuable addition to the Sabercats, started four times, splitting time at center and fullback. 

Matías is a versatile back, who is as comfortable in the midfield as he is at fullback. He is a strong ball carrier and will look to inject some flair and pace into SD Legion’s backline. We are excited to have this seasoned athlete for the 2022 season.
