It appears that South African and Super Rugby standout Joe Pietersen has settled in just fine in San Diego. However, with the second season of MLR rugby underway in 2019 it could be Pietersen’s penchant for rugby or surfing that contributes to his comfort so far away from his South African origins. Filling the fullback position with the Legion, the 34-year old boasts a rugby career spanning professional play for the Western Province, the Stormers, Bayonne and Biarritz in France, and eventually a Japanese side, the Kamaishi Seawaves. It is this experience that made Joe an attractive candidate to pull on the no. 15 jersey with the Legion and his stubborn defense and offensive finesse will be a challenge for opponents in 2020.
